Computer Gaming and LAN Parties

I've always been a computer gamer at heart. Since my first computer and the original Doom for DOS, I've played FPS and simulation games as they get better and better. In my junior year of high school I found the Akron Gamers' League, a LAN Party and I was hooked. I've been going to different LANs since then. Today my lan experience is limited to the biggest LAN party in the US, Quakecon, and minilans with my friends in Ohio.

Dead Gamers' Society Webpage
Here is the website for my old LAN Party, the Dead Gamers' Society. It's been bounced around many servers due to me being too cheap to ever buy it a real domain name. I even revived it one summer but couldn't get enough interest from people due to schoolwork. Now that I have moved to Dallas there is no hope, but the page is archived here for sentimental reasons.

The Whempy's Wireless Project
On May 17, 2003, Anthony (Codex), Tim Conway (Swiftwulf), Jo (Krhainos) and I (Eclipse) went to the Whempy's LAN party in Columbus. The Whempy's LAN was a larger party than any in northeast Ohio and lasted two days. Being two hours away, we only went a handful of times. For the two hour journey we created a wireless network between the cars to communicate and for fun. This was in the early days of wireless (a/b) and was a big hit with the whempys crowd. My brother has since revived this idea including 3G data through the network for wireless internet on the way to Quakecon. This is the original idea with all images/video intact.

200 Miles of Disappointment
The next month Tim, Anthony and I tried to go back to Whempy's. This trip was a little different. I'll let you read to find out what happened, but at a time when my website and blogging was very new, this short post is my most well known and probably contributed to my keeping up with it.

History is written by the victorious
The date is April 3rd, 2004. Location: The planet Frostbite. This time at the JelOH LAN, Rick (Rombus), Dan (Darksquare), Tim (Swiftwulf), Brian (Infinity X), and I team up to win the Unreal Tournament 2004 Onslaught tournament.

Quakecon 2005
After 5 years of wanting and wishing to go to Quakecon, Rick and I finally went with my brother, Adam, and his friend March. It was no trip for the weak hearted. 1200 miles away in the city of Dallas, we saw the largest lan party in the U.S. for the first time and were totally blown away. Quake 4, Doom 3, anything you wanted to play was played. Check out my video too.

Tech Posts, Apple and PCs

Playing games on the computer led me to become pretty good with PCs and tech. In July of 03 I got a third gen iPod which led to an interest in Apple and a 12" Powerbook in October 03. I like to post about tech stuff like my computer setup, rumors & new products coming out, and sometimes I do reviews too.

Apple iPhone Review
You've already heard all about the iPhone from Apple. You know what it is and how to use it. How does it stand up to a tech nerd who also travels a lot for work?

Motorola PEBL Review
Before I got the iPhone I had the PEBL from motorola. It's quite similar to the RAZR but nicely different. Read on if you dare.

CD Drive Stealthing
It's not much of a feature, I know, but maybe it will inspire some other mods. With the help of Jo, I slid my CD Drives back a quarter inch and taped the blank drive covers to the front of the drive tray. Pressing the corner would hit the eject key on the CD drive and open the tray. I liked the mod but eventually removed it.

Home Entertainment Console and Backlit Desk
This was a big post about recent computer issues, but has some good pics and I show off a row of LEDs placed behind my desk. They don't make the computer go any faster, but they do make the desk faster. I also use a PS3 as a media client for my new HDTV.

Rants

Everyone loves a good rant. I like to write them but take them with a grain of salt. I'm not that angry or mean of a person.

Six Flags World of Pain
For three summers I was a ride operator at Six Flags/Geauga Lake in Ohio. If you want to know what ride operators think as we push the cattle through the roller coasters, this is it. Terrible that the park is being torn down and auctioned off though..

Customers Hate Airlines More
Inspired by a FUD article being passed off as news by MSNBC and written to compliment Rick's anti-corporation rant. MSNBC's Christopher Elliott says that pilots and Flight Attendants should be discarded to save money and fuel with no regard for safety. It's time for sensationalist news to stop and a return to good journalism with research and morals.

D-Link DSL-2320B How I Loathe You
D-Link tried to take the internet from me. You don't know just how much you rely on the internets until they are gone.

LAN Party Cancelled by President
It's June 29th 2002, the beginning of the end for my own LAN Party, the "Dead Gamers' Society". It was a great LAN Party with one downfall: I needed Joe Yash (Lethal) to rent the Knight's Hall and he was too unstable at that time. Every time we had a LAN Party he would end up getting into fights with his parents or me and the LAN was cancelled, back on, new time, etc... It proved to be too much for our lanners to follow and they stopped coming. I could never find a new building and the LAN eventually collapsed. I'm still mad.
